If you live in Gachibowli, Kondapur, Kokapet, Narsingi or Manikonda, your society probably has more rules about moving than you've ever had to read. Most associations want a move-out form signed, maintenance dues cleared and a service lift booked for a fixed slot. Security will also note down the truck number and crew names at the gate.

Start on this about a week before the move. At the free survey our move manager goes through what your society asks for, and what the society at the other end wants, because it's usually the second one that catches people out. Nobody enjoys a loaded truck standing outside a tower in Nanakramguda because the lift was booked for the wrong day.

What's different about moving in the Old City or Secunderabad?

Around Charminar, Begum Bazar and the older parts of Secunderabad, lanes are narrow and parking is close to impossible during market hours. We don't try to force a big truck in. A smaller vehicle takes the goods to a wider road, they go onto the main truck there, and loading happens in the quieter part of the day.

Heavy vehicles also have time restrictions on many city roads. For a cross-city shift, say LB Nagar to Gachibowli or Kompally to Kokapet, the Outer Ring Road is often quicker than cutting through the middle, so the route and reporting time are fixed before moving day. Homes in Marredpally, Bowenpally or Trimulgherry can involve Cantonment roads with their own restrictions, and we check those in advance too.

Intercity routes and how long they take

Bangalore and Pune are both about 560 km away and usually take 2–3 days. Visakhapatnam (about 570 km) and Chennai (about 620 km) fall in the same 2–3 day range. Mumbai is roughly 710 km and we quote 3–5 days for it, while Delhi, at about 1530 km, takes 5–7 days.

On all of these, your goods go into the Trucking Cube, a lockable container that stays shut until it reaches you, and you hold the keys. Kitchen things, glassware and showpieces go into the Perfect Box, which is built to absorb shocks. April and May get properly hot here, so we try to load early. In the monsoon, from around June to September, a heavy shower can flood underpasses quickly, so leave some slack in the day's plan.

Offices, factories and vehicles

Offices in HITEC City, Madhapur, Begumpet and Somajiguda usually move over a weekend. Every workstation and file box is labelled by department, so on Monday people find their own desks. For industrial units in Balanagar, Jeedimetla or Cherlapally, someone visits first to look at machine weights and loading access. If a car is part of the move, it goes up on a car carrier, and motorcycles are strapped into our Bike Stand.
